Hotel Ambadi - A 46 room theme resort situated  at the Periyar Tiger Reserves, is one of the first private sector resorts in Kerala. Designed by the world renowned architect Mr. Lauwrie Baker, the hotel was conceptualized  on the traditional architectural splendor of a typical  Kerala village, complete with  a Thulasi Thara and Nallukettu. "Ambadi" as the name denotes is the birth place of Lord Krishna, the mythical god in the great epic of India - The Mahabharatha. The life of lord Krishna, the history, the myth, is the core theme of this resort. The resort is replete with references to the life of Lord Krishna.

Ambadi offers 46 well appointed rooms, under three different categories. The hotel has 24 independent cottages constructed in traditional Kerala ambience 

Corporate Profile: Hotel Ambadi, a part of the BIPHA GROUP, is a professionally managed company with an active presence, spanning seven decades, in a vast cross-section of industries. The Group, founded by Mr. K. About Periyar


A haven for rare tropical flora & fauna , this wild-life Sanctuary, nestled in the high ranges of Kerala, offers an exotic holiday experience to the nature-lover. The Periyar wildlife sanctuary, one of India's biggest wild life sanctuaries, is a Tiger Reserve covering an area of 777 sq-km. It's centerpiece, the man-made Periyar Lake at a height of 2000 ft. covers an area of 26 sq. km. The best time to visit Periyar is between October and May. The hot months of March, April and May are the best times to sight wild animals. Scarcity of water brings the animals , especially the herds of elephants, down to the Periyar lake to bath and frolic in the waters. Periyar Lake The most convenient way to view wildlife is to take a boat cruise on the lake, the only means of transport within the sanctuary. Boat cruises on the lake take two hours. The morning and evening boat rides usually provide the best chance of viewing animals before they retreat into the jungle.

The Flora: Periyar is a luxuriantly vegetated tract, 75% of which is covered with ever green and semi-evergreen forests. Moist deciduous forests, grasslands and to a small extent  Eucalyptus Plantations make up the rest of the area. Sporadic patches of 'sholas', which are sub tropical mountain forests, occupy the crest and crevices of high altitude tracts, while clusters of bamboo occur along water logged areas.

The Thekkady Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1993.  It is    located  at 9deg 15min and 9deg 40min North latitude and 76deg 55min and 77deg 25min East longitude. At an altitude varying from 900m to 1800m sea level, the climate is pleasant with temperatures ranging from a maximum of 32deg Celsius to a minimum of 15deg Celsius. Forest Areas cover about 777 Sq. Km and Evergreen Forests  extends up to 360 Sq. Km.

Periyar Wildlife Park is one of India's most enjoyable and intriguing  national parks. It is certainly one of the country's largest and the best administered, and is the veritable home of the Indian elephant. In addition, it offers the most luxurious way of viewing animals in their natural environment - you just need to relax in the comfort of a motor launch and the panorama of the park unfolds as you glide across the placid waters of Periyar Lake.

Mullaperiyar Dam is one of oldest dams in India. Built in 1895 across the Periyar river, it inundated the valleys, and gorges forming the large water spread of 26 sq. km.

Elephant Ride:
Enjoy an elephant ride to the forest interior. Elephant rides are organized at the Periyar Sanctuary by the Forest department.

Visit  cardamom, pepper, coffee and tea plantations, where you can have an inside view at the growing ,harvesting, processing stages  of these products.

A guide will accompany tourists on a trek which is of around 3 - hour duration.
