TREATMENTS IN AYURVEDA
Pizhichil: - In this treatment, lukewarm herbal oils are applied all over the body by two to four trained masseurs in a special rhythmic manner continuously for about 60 to 90 minutes per day for a period of 7 to 21 days. This treatment is very useful for rheumatic diseases like arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegia, paralysis-agitanus, sexual weakness and nerve disorders.
Navarakizhi: - Here, either the whole body or specific parts thereof are made to perspire by the application of certain medical preparations tied up in boluses / muslin bags. These boluses are heated and then applied to the affected body part. This treatment is ideal for all types of rheumatic pain in the joints, emaciation of limbs, blood pressure, cholesterol and certain kinds of skin diseases.
Abhyangam : - IN this process, medicated herbal oils are applied to the body and head and gently massaged in, allowing the body to soak up the medicated properties of the oil. When done daily, Abhyanga and Snana help alleviate fatigue, delays ageing, gives clarity to sight, improves sleep, improves the skin texture, complexion and elasticity.
Udvarthanam: - Udvarthanam is the application of herbal powder on the body. The powder is mixed with either oil / buttermilk / medicated juice or applied directly. This treatment tones up the body, removes excessive fat, thus making the body feel lighter and active. Following Udvarthanam is Snana- bath which is given using a green gram wrap and warm water for the body and lukewarm water for the head.
Dinacharya : - A 45-minute session that includes the following components: DantaDhavana - rubbing the teeth with medicated herbal powder which is good for oral hygiene etc.
Anjana- applications of collyrium in the eyes to keep it healthy.
Nasya- this helps to clear the nasal channels.
Gandoosha- this strengthens the gums and teeth and is good for oral hygiene.
Dhoomapana- inhalation of medicated smoke, again done to prevent diseases of the ear, nose and throat regions.
Abhyanga- as mentioned earlier.
Mukha Lepam: - Muka Lepam helps to enhance facial features including skin colour and texture. It also helps to prevent the development of acne and other similar facial problems.
