Aida,
the title of our hotel is closely connected with the Greek heavenly mountain,
IDA- where the Muses and the Graces dwell. According to Greek mythology
the Graces and Muses are represented as the sisters of Mount Olympus.
The Graces- Splendor, Mirth and Cheer and the Muses are said to dance
to the divine music of Apollo's golden lyre. They enrich life with their
divine enchantment. In Aida, the Muses and Graces relieve day-to-day tension.
Hotel Aida is a subsidiary
company wholly owned by CT Jacob Kelachandra & Sons. |

| Kathakali
is a Classical Dance-Drama
of Kerala, South India that dates from the 17th century and is rooted
in Hindu Mythology.
Kathakali is a harmonious combination of five forms of art:
1. Literature (Sahithyam) 2. Music (Sangeetham)
3. Painting (Chithram) 4. Acting (Natyam) 5.
Dance (Nritham)
All the five forms of art have a very important place in this combination.
Its literature is poetic and dramatic. It is also narrative and indicative.
Costumes: The crown and costumes have to be made by craftsmen and
artists and are elaborate. The performer wears ceremonial make-up and
dress that includes a large circular headdress made of wood.
Make-up: The Aharya (Make-up) has many faces like Pacha, Kathi,
Thadi, Minukku etc. These colours and names denote one or the other nature
of the characters. The make-up is complicated, requiring several hours
to apply.
Dance and Music: The dance and music are vibrant and instructive.
During the drama the dancers do not speak, but hand movements known as
'Mudra' and mime are so varied as to constitute a complete sign language.
The movements are explosive, accompanied by an incessant drumming that
begins before the performance and lasts throughout the drama. Kathakali
performances usually begin with a peaceful love scene. The dance takes
all night and builds to a violent climax by dawn. The great poet Vallathol
organized Kalamandalam at Cheruthuruthy in Kerala and toured the world
taking Kathakali. |

| Kalaripayattu:
The martial arts of Kerala - Kalaripayattu - consists of a series of intricate
movements that train the body and mind. The discipline is continually
practiced and complemented by the Kerala's famous Ayurvedic and nature
cure techniques. These are believed to have traveled to eastern China,
where they inspired the evolution of other martial art forms. 'Verumkai'
is the final and most difficult of lessons taught in the Kalari. The others
are Maithozhil - combat through kicks, Kolathiri - combat using sticks
and Angathiri - the use of metal weapons. |
