Indoor Recreation

The Indian cultural art forms, rich in essence and heritage are regularly performed in the indoor auditorium by the best artistes of Kerala Kalamandalam. Major art forms performed are:

KATHAKALI, a dance drama based on episodes from the epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharatha.

KOODIYATTAM, many Sanskrit plays completely or partially presented by Chakyars enacting the male roles and Nangiars taking female roles and rendering verbal acting in stylized Sanskrit and Prakrit.

MOHINIYATTOM, the dance form of the celestial temptress, OTTAMTHULLAL, a dance form of quick movements interpreting stories from the epics, BARATHANATYAM, one of the oldest classical dances originated from Tamilnadu, KUCHUPUDI, a dance performed about the striking episodes of Lord Krishna by the dancer through poetic gestures.

Outdoor Entertainment

Kalaripayattu: An exhilarating martial art form, that hails originally from northern districts of Kerala, is performed regularly at Nilayoram. The fighters, normally 6 to 8 will participate in the display, are sheer dedicated artistes who have mastered this art form through immense concentration, discipline and courage.

Elephant Ride: Kerala is the land of Poorams and procession of decorated elephants is a common sight. These elephants are of calm nature and friendly. It is an entertainment as well as fun to have a ride on top of the softly saddled elephant along the sandy banks of river Bharathapuzha to enjoy and explore the beauty of the countryside.

Malampuzha River Project
Site is 50 km. east of Nilayoram. The project site lies in the bowl formed by the lower hills of the Western Ghats. The extensive lake is ideal for cruise for which ample facilities exist.
Thrissur Vadakkumnatha Temple
34 km south of Nilayoram. The ancient Vadakkumnatha Temple dominates the town and extensive maidan is celebrated the famous Thrissur Pooram Festival.
Peechi River Project
An ideal excursion spots 20 km east of Thrissur. The serene garden, lake and the tranquil surroundings give the visitor the best choice for a day-out.
Guruvayoor Lord Krishna Temple
This most sacred temple dedicated to Lord Krishna (Guruvayoorappan) is just 45 km southwest of Nilayoram. Pilgrims from all parts of the country visit this sacred place throughout the year. One of the nearby appeals to the visitor is the “Elephant Yard or Anathavalam”; an exciting seen where 50 or more elephants are housed and looked after by the temple management.
